dear yoda letter

Dear Yoda,

I am so very excited that this exchange is happening again this year and I cannot wait to see what you create for me. I'm sure I'll love it! Everything that follows in this letter except for my DNWs is very much take what you like, discard what you don't.

DNWs: adultery/cheating, character bashing, historical/mundane/modern/non-canon divergent AUs (fic only), kink, porn/smut (fade-to-black scenes are fine, scenes indicating sex is imminent are also fine), specific references to past relationships

Loves (in alphabetical order, no preference intended)

AUs: canon divergent AUs, canon-set AUs where characters might have another occupation, mirror!verse/dark side AUs, role reversal AUs
Themes: betrayal (except for cheating/adultery), characters presented with moral/ethical quandaries, finding and encouraging moments of joy in the midst of pain and suffering, loyalty, sacrifice (of self, reputation, others, etc.), "the road to hell is paved with good intentions," unrequited love, what makes good people good and what might make good people do bad things
Tropes: fake dating, five times fic, future/post-canon fic, misunderstandings and miscommunication, pining, power couples
Other Stuff: atmospheric/moody writing, character studies, close platonic relationships, confessions of love/confessions of love via actions taken, irreconcilable differences between characters, melancholic/bittersweet tone, moments of growing intimacy, pre-relationships and shippy gen, realistic romantic moments, sad/unhappy endings, sympathetic portrayals of flawed characters, unreliable narrators, unusual writing styles and POVs, worldbuilding details

Art-specific Stuff: bright colors, cute AU interpretations of characters (in the case of art, I love all sorts of AUs, mundane/modern included), illustrations that tell a story, limited palettes, minimalist, exaggerated, and/or sketchy/brushstroke-y styles, tarot card designs

I don't have a lot of specific art prompts, mostly because I love all fanart, but I'm always a sucker for things like characters dancing together, dark interpretations of characters, holding hands/snuggling, hugging, kissing, and portraits. Anything you see up in the writing loves section that inspires/could apply to art is equally welcome!

I wouldn't call it a "love" exactly, but in case it isn't clear from how much I do love unhappy endings and bittersweetness (and considering a lot of the ships I ship), I'm also 100% great with works that explore character death if that's something you're also into. This applies to canons with characters for which that's true and for ones for which that isn't true. Basically, I'm good with character death if you want to explore that.

That said, for Rogue One characters, I'm absolutely here for fix-its and/or handwave-y everyone/some characters live(s) scenarios if that's where you want to go.

Cassian Andor & Eneb Ray
Ever since I read the first Star Wars annual, I was intrigued by Eneb Ray and the kind of spying he did for the Rebellion and what it cost him and how it came back to roost in the Rebel Jail arc of the comics. I can't help but feel he and Cassian might have something in common in how much they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the cause.

• One trains the other in spycraft and maybe the both of them end up shaping the other's ideologies. I could be sold on it going either way. Eneb reads older to me than Cassian, so seeing Cassian being the one doing the training, especially being younger is especially intriguing though.
• Cassian is something of an inspirational figure/cautionary tale for Eneb even though they never had the chance to meet before Scarif. How does that affect how he approaches his own job and how does it alter his opinion of the Rebellion's treatment of its spies?

Art prompt: Cassian and Eneb training together? Or out sneaking around on a mission together?

Cassian Andor & Lando Calrissian & Maz Kanata
I've reached the point where I've convinced myself Cassian would have had to visit Maz's castle at some point for the sake of some piece of information and we know from a dubiously canon Lego short that Lando and Maz know each other.

• I would love just seeing them run into one another and how they might interact as a result. Maybe Lando has come across some information that he feels inclined to hand over to the Rebellion and is Cassian's contact and Maz acts as their intermediary?

Art prompt: the three of them sharing a drink together!

Cassian Andor/Lando Calrissian
Whoever nominating this pairing is a genius and I absolutely adore it. The contrasts between these characters would be so interesting to see explored, especially with a Lando who hasn't yet found his way as Baron Administrator of Cloud City.

• A more shippy version of Cassian and Lando meeting in Maz's castle? Maybe they keep running into each other despite being there for different reasons and eventually they start to look forward to their encounters (and maybe engineer them)?
• Cassian is such a serious man. Lando very much projects a persona that is... not. How might that play out if they hooked up? Does Lando get under Cassian's skin? Does Lando get under Cassian's skin on purpose? Does it perplex/moderately annoy Lando that Cassian is wise to his ways?
• Everyone Lives AU where they work together post-ROTJ? Aftermath states that Lando spends at least some of his time teaching other characters how to carry off cover stories. Seems like the kind of thing that might be relevant to a spy like Cassian.
• Lando getting into some sort of shenanigans puts him in the path of one of Cassian's ops. Somehow, his interference saves Cassian's life. Maybe he feels like Cassian owes him a drink for that.

Art prompt: Lando being roguishly charming in Cassian's general direction.

Lando Calrissian/Ssaria
• I would love to know how Lando feels about his relationship with Ssaria and the fact that she's a Moff and based on The Empire Strikes Back (and, like, the comics) we know Lando's not super into the Empire. Is he surprised to find he likes her despite this fact? Or is he curious? Does he actually harbor some of the feelings he has for her in the beginning of the comic or is it all just a ruse? And how does he feel about that fact afterward? He sure seems earnest considering that he calls her a monster just a few minutes after we see panels where he acts like he cares for her.

Art prompt: Lando wooing the fiend of Castell.

Mon Mothma/Orson Krennic
I like the potential these two bring to a relationship. They've been around since the Republic days and though they probably didn't run in the same circles, it feels like they may have been circle-adjacent? I'm enamored of the idea of lovers falling on opposing sides and I think they'd fit well into this trope. Besides which, the dichotomy between Mon Mothma's coolness and Krennic's hot-blooded temper is interesting.

• I feel like if they met, they'd probably not get along at first, what with Mon Mothma being all about peace and Krennic building a superweapon. But... maybe at one point they were both trying to reach the same conclusion through different means. And maybe they could grow to respect each other's methods. So... what would that look like?
• Perhaps they're in an established relationship when Palpatine becomes the Emperor. How does that change their relationship? Do they try to keep it going (though I suspect that wouldn't end well)?
• Post-relationship Mon Mothma doing everything she can do defeat him/make sure the Death Star is destroyed and decidedly refusing to wish it could've ended differently.

Art prompt: younger Mon Mothma seeing Krennic in his Imperial uniform for the first time and being deeply saddened by it.

Nash Windrider & None
Nash is one of the more sympathetically portrayed Imperials I've come across and one of the most tragic in my opinion and the way the destruction of Alderaan makes him more devoted to the Empire rather than less is such a poignant and sad and true feeling reaction to such a situation. Where he's left at the end of the book makes me want to see what kind of role he might have had in the extremely fundamentalist slant the First Order takes.

I ship Leia Organa/Nash Windrider and Ciena Ree/Nash Windrider for what that's worth. The former on the strength of Alderaan Feels and the latter because I find the juxtaposition of Ciena as an Imperial who kind of questions the Empire, but refuses to abandon it and Nash as an Imperial who refuses to question the Empire and also refuses to abandon it.

• If you somehow want to bring Nash Windrider into the Sequel Trilogy timeline, I would love to see what he's doing and how he takes the fact that the last princess of Alderaan is the leader of the Resistance. (Also, if for some reason you're interested in giving Nash the same or similar role Hux played and seeing how that would work out, I'd love it forever.)
• Really though, any exploration of Nash's inner life post-Lost Stars would be like catnip for me.
• I would also love to see him interacting with Alderaanian survivors at some point. Want to throw Evaan his way? Great! Any of the others from the Princess Leia comic? Great! What if he found out what Leia and Evaan had managed to accomplish for the people of Alderaan who remained? How would he react?

Art prompt: what is your conception of what he looks like?

Orson Krennic/Rae Sloane
This is... one of the more crackshippy of my favorite pairings, but. If you're even contemplating tackling this ship, you're an amazing individual. Basically, it comes down to me feeling like two smart (or smartish... Krennic's got his flaws in that department imo), ambitious Imperial officers should get together and take down Palpatine themselves and, like, keep the Empire around, because if anyone could, it's Rae Sloane. Ahem. Anyway. I just like the idea of Rae, no-nonsense and serious as she is, meeting up with a brilliant hot head like Krennic.

• Game of Thrones Imperial Order style? With the Emperor's chair as the Iron Throne? Krennic is into making power plays even if he's only somewhat competent at it and is willing to skirt around Darth Vader's shadow to do it. Rae has definite ideas about how the Empire should be run thanks to Aftermath. So... what if they team up before it all goes to hell? And then fall in love and are very inconvenienced by that fact. Or they fall in love first. Or not at all, but maybe they really like each other or feel like the other one would be useful. Or maybe they hate each other, but find it useful to team up.
• Marriage of (in)convenience.

Art prompt: Krennic and Sloane striking some sort of deal?

Pash Davane/Leia Organa
I have one Leia specific DNW and it's this: if you matched with me on this relationship or you want to create for it regardless, I'd appreciate no references to Leia Organa/Han Solo. They can still be good friends and I wouldn't want him bashed, but I would prefer they not have been together or the implication that they'll end up together. Thanks for understanding!

This is my newest love. I'm so smitten with how conflicted Pash is about Leia and how Leia looks to someone outside of the Rebellion, who maybe doesn't know her as well as they (and the audience) does. I love that Leia has to break through her own shell to reach Pash and reveals some very deep truths about herself in the process. And normally I don't lose it about height differences, but Pash is so tall and strong and muscular and Leia is very small in comparison and that's amazing to me for them. It's such a new love, however, that I would love anything you might be inclined to create for it!

• I could see Pash having a crush on Leia that becomes what she thinks is unrequited love. But maybe, just maybe, it's requited.
• Pash is the one person who keeps Leia honest with herself.

Art prompt: Pash picks Leia up in a hug and/or spins her around.

Poe Dameron/Terex
Terex so clearly cares more about getting his hands on Poe than he cares about the First Order and Poe's just... vastly unimpressed in return. Also, they're both snarky bastards, so, like... that's why. Basically: fun antagonistic relationship.

• Terex legitimately corners Poe somehow. Terex lets him go because the chase was always more fun anyway. Poe is kind of pissed off because Terex isn't playing the game right. He's gotta know Poe'll always figure his own way out. He doesn't have to go easy on Poe.
• Terex accidentally defects because Poe. He's not exactly happy about it (and Poe may or may not be happy about it, I'm sold on either for it because on the one hand I feel like Poe could probably hold a grudge against someone like Terex, who wouldn't, but Poe is also probably a pretty forgiving sort of guy under the right circumstances, so...). They then have to figure it out and work together. Somehow.
• FO Pilot Poe Dameron keeps hearing word about this rogue agent who keeps pissing all the brass off and he's intrigued because his favorite game is pissing the brass off and he needs to know the competition.

Art prompt: I would love anything for these two! Antagonistic kissing! Antagonistic glaring! Antagonistically working together!
